Shadow Falls - This is like an old school radio show. It's got some great production values and is a lot of fun. Very spooky.
The Rookie - A podcast novel, well performed (not just read) by the author, Scott Sigler. It combines aliens, football, organized crime, and as a result of those things lots and LOTS of violence. As Scott says give this thing four chapters (I say two) and you'll be hooked.

If you aren't listening to some of these then you're missing some fiiiine fiction. Better than most of the stuff on the tube. You don't need an iPod or even an MP3 player as you can listen to these on the PC.
Do you like horror? I know I do. And I found a podcast that you might want to check out. Go to Pseudopod and subscribe. I've listened to their last three entries and its goooood. Hopefully you'll hear me there one day soon. I submitted a piece of flash fiction (sub 1000 words) for their consideration. They pay and although it ain't much it is exposure. Wish me luck!
I sent out an email to some friends/web acquaintances about this a while back. My intention is to start a podcast of short Christian fiction (not my own). I intend this to be a paying market and am looking for people who can contribute in any way. I've had a few nibbles from the email and I think that I can make this happen.
If you want to have a story of yours put into a podcast, if you want to read for me, or if you'd just like to start a conversation about what "Christian" fiction is exactly, drop a comment here.
I'll let you know more as things progress. Oh and feel free to link this from your own blog/website if you are so inclined.
I was back on the Rocky Mountain Ride this week where Aaron and I talked Imus, abortion, and Fox News. If those words alone don't give you indigestion then listen to the show (my audio does clear up, dang VOIP). Aaron and I will also be doing a weekly religious show. All of these shows can be called in to, so give us a ring, Saturday at 11:00 pm EST for politics and TBA for religion.
New Rocky Mountain Political and Religious Rides up.
Also I posted my response to Sid. Finally.
If you love movies and sci-fi you should really download this podcast spisode. Escape Pod ? EP105: Impossible Dreams
Then go here and listen to more.
Well, we've arrived at Friday again and not a whole lot of substance on the ol' bloggy-blog.
There is some action at my tumblelog.
I am going to be participating in the Rocky Mountain Ride shows so that should be interesting. I'm sure we'll talk about the Republican "debate" a bit and who knows what all. The religious show will continue to find its way. We'll be talking about simple churches aka house churches at some point in the near future, hopefully with a special guest. Maybe a bit about the religious right with the passing of Mr. Falwell.
So go outside, enjoy the beautiful weather, and please call in to one of our lovely podcasts!!!
Technical Stew the first steps in a group blog/podcast on tech.
In an effort to sharpen what meager Spanish skills I have (I have advanced skills in restaurant Spanish, but little formal training in the actual language) I've started listening to Coffee Break Spanish. It's a good, brief podcast that starts off with the basics. What makes it a little funny is that the hosts are Scottish. Their pronunciation is excellent. It's just a bit humorous when they're speaking English. Go check it out!
Aaron's Blogtalk Radio shows (now collectively known merely as The Ride) are experiencing a bit of a changeup. The Religious Ride will remain as is, Sunday nights at 10 est, and we (including Bear) had a rollicking good time last night discussing Islam and the decline of the American church. The Political Ride moves to Monday nights at 9 est. Tonight I expect I shall school the young lad on a number of issues including why the President made a grievous error in commuting Libby's sentence. For complete scheduling info and show notes you should of course check out aarondelay.com/radio.
Why don't you give Episode 2 of the Technical Stew 'cast a listen? (Okay so depending on how you count it it's one, two or three since we did a test cast on BTR and one on TS, but this is an hour long and has Pat so added bonus.) It's worth your time!
If you want to listen live/participate, keep checking back here or here for info. Looks like Friday nights at 10:00 EST will be our regular time, until it isn't.
Right click and save this our latest political show. We talked a bit about political extremism and how much it sucks and I stacked two or three soapboxes up and climbed on them.
Link fixed (I hope).
I saw the newest Bourne movie and it was good. It would have been reeeeally nice if i had rented number two first. It's not a must, but it's a good idea.
I caught up on Jekyll on BBCA. I'm not sure if BBCA rawks so much because American TV largely sucks or if it just does because it does. Either way, we win!
We went on a trek to Pilot Mountain. I will post pics tonight.
I rented Hot Fuzz. If you are like me and tend not to make it to some of the awesome movies while they're still in the theater, you should make this a priority rental. It has a fair amount of British swearing, a surprising amount of grue, references Point Break and Bad Boys 2 a number of times, and all of that works in a remarkably hilarious way.
I did manage a short Tech Stew cast, solo this go 'round due to someone else having a social life (and no he didn't call first).
I also managed to make it on The Political Ride though not the Religious one. Next week I'm planning to make it to all three.
Give it a listen. It's fairly short.
I've been listening to Escape Pod for quite a while now (I really need to show some donation love) and this particular episode has got to be one of the best evar. Give it a listen.
Aaron and I waxed political on his BlogtalkRadio show. First time I've been on in a while. We talked about corruption, Hillary, Obama, bias, all sort of good stuff.
I hope to blog about the following this week:
See you round!
This is something I've been thinking about doing for many moons. I'm a huge fan of what Steve does at EsacpePod, PseudoPod, and what PodCastle will be doing. That is have a paying market for artists to sell their audio rights to. So here's what I'm thinking of as far as submission guidlines go.
Length - 2,000 to 6,000 words long. That seems to work well for what I'm hearing over at Steve's place.
Licensing - I'd use the Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 license.
Content - This is the tricky bit. I would want it to be Christian speculative fiction.
Pay - It will. Not sure how much to start, but I don't want anyone to work for free who doesn't want to.
What is speculative fiction? That would be fantasy/sci-fi.
What does it mean to be Christian fiction? Well my wife and I talked about that. In a nutshell (and I'll expand upon this as things start to gel) it would mean that the story would have to communicate some aspect of the Gospel. It wouldn't have to nail everything down since that might be asking a bit much. I'd be looking for things along the lines of what Ted Dekker writes. I'd say it needs to steer clear of excessive violence, sexual content and profanity. I'm not looking for rated G stuff (though that would be fine), but defintely no R. I don't want allegory (unless it's just REALLY good).
So I need your help. One, would you listen? Two, would you contribute? Three, I'm mulling over names and will take any suggestions.
J.C. Hutchins (big fan right here) has sent an open invitation to bloggers, "I’m Your Billboard".
The man has a sizeable audience and more importantly and awesome idea.
Bloggers, this is your open invitation: Consider my show a billboard for your work.If you want to promote your blog to thousands of engaged listeners, for free, here’s your chance. Create a one-minute audio promo for your blog, and send it to me. I’ll play it in an upcoming episode of my podcast. Boom, done-deal, no reciprocation required.
Don’t wig. Creating an audio promo is easy: Write up the quick “elevator pitch” about what your blog covers, include your URL … and that’s it. Record it with a computer mic and email it to me: 7thSonNovel@gmail.com. If you don’t have a computer mic, call this number and leave a voice mail: 206-984-0918. I guarantee I’ll play your promo in a future episode of my show.
If you have a blog and an audience that you're trying to reach, do this!
Haven't done this in a while, so I figure it's time.
Soooo, I feel the need to update the ol' bloggy-blog but don't have one solid thought. Thus you get the following.
- "Auditioned" for a part in The Metamor City Podcast. I had a couple of chapters recorded for a podcast novel of my own and sent him those.
- I will start posting said novel by this weekend and will do so weekly. Sunday seems to be a good day. Watch this space for updates.
- Speaking of updates there are none on my wifes condition. The wait, while not fatal, is certainly maddening. Keep praying.
- MCF has posted his second tier brackets and I made it. I'm going up against the Unseen Blogger an ultraconservative Catholic with whom I agree with rarely, but who generally makes interesting posts.
- I am officially addicted to Twitter. You should join. It doesn't hurt and doesn't change your personality... much.
- I love Jango
- You should really be reading Spitball Politics. It will make you smarter, better looking, and quite possibly liberal.
- Go buy Infected. It will make you cringe and laugh. Possibly at the same time.
That is all.
And so finally, after many moons of hemming and hawing, I now present Episode 1 of Archangel: Valley of the Shadow. Listen and let me know what you think.

For those of you that don't get it (which may be more of you than I think), I present Podcasting in Plain English by Common Craft.
Enjoy.
Now that I've got some listeners and have been getting some feedback this is starting to get fun. Due to the retreat I was unable to record this weekend, but I should be able to lay down tracks tonight. I may have made inroads toward getting some better sound equipment thanks to a buddy at church. Until then audio quality won't be as good as I'd like it to be.
If you want to subscribe to my podcast in your favorite podcatcher just use this url http://www.spiritualtramp.com/index.xml. I haven't submitted to iTunes yet because I need to figure out how to get MT to pass the right data to iTunes. When I get that up and running I'll let y'all know.
If anyone in the audience knows how to get MT to cooperate let me know.
I blogged about this before and it looks like I was right. You can get a free thirty minute audio excerpt and a free pdf version. Check Sigler's site for info.
BONUS: 30-minute audio excerpt from Cory Doctor's new novel LITTLE BROTHER
Sorry for the wait. Here's Episode 3 of Archangel: Valley of the Shadow. I included a new intro and hang on 'til the end to hear a promo for Morevi.
I got a lot of GREAT feedback. Keep it up and I hope you enjoy.

Cory Doctorow interviewed by J.C. Hutchins. If you write and are interested in hearing about how giving your stuff away is a good thing, you need to listen.
Cory is best-known as a pioneer in the Open Media movement and the “giving it away is okay” philosophy — releasing free versions of his fiction to evangelize and enhance the exposure of his printed work. He’s a trendsetter and visionary in this field. In addition, Cory is an activist, consumer advocate, and a co-editor for the culture blog, BoingBoing.net.In this interview, Cory chats about his career as a writer, his activism, and Little Brother, which debuted in bookstores last week. Stick around after the interview: you’ll hear an excerpt from the novel, which is also available as a DRM-free audiobook from Random House Audio.

It's encouraging to see podcast authors that I've been listening to for months/years experiencing so much success.
Playing For Keeps by Mur Lafferty was picked up by Swarm Press. Jack Palms by Seth Harwood will be put out by Crown next year. And of course Scott Sigler's novel Infected was put out by Crown this year and is doing very well for a first novel.
I own Infected and will no doubt buy PFK and JP:1. The stories rocked in audio form and I like doing my part to encourage authors using non-traditional means to get the stories that we want to hear out there. Oh just like me! In fact all of these folks are the ones who've inspired my efforts. So if you don't like Archangel, blame Scott/Mur/Seth. :-D
I'll be putting up some reviews and pimping other podcasts over the next few weeks. If you have an MP3 player and enjoy audio books (I know, not everyone does) you could do worse than give these guys a listen.
Also if you're reading this and are a Christian podcaster/writer and would like to cross-promote/collaborate let me know!
Repost of Episode 2. iTunes/Feedburner is being a naughty thing.
Here's Episode 2 of Archangel: Valley of the Shadow. Listen and let me know what you think. There's no intro but stick in 'til the end to hear a promo for The Adventures of Indiana Jim.

So it looks like I might be reviewing podcasts/interviewing podcasters for HollywoodJesus.com. Not sure what that will look like yet. I've got a phone call with the editor scheduled for tomorrow.
You may recall that I've done some music reviews for them (links to which can be found in here). The 'casts (like the music) in no way have to be overtly spiritual/Christian/whatever. Any spiritual link is up to yours truly to explore. I have some ideas as to who I'll be hitting up, but if you have any recommendations let me know. The content of the ‘casts will vary so any you recommend will go in the brain hopper.
J. C. Hutchins is the master of using new media and social networking to pimp get the word out on his projects. As a way of letting folks know about his latest project 7th Son: Obsidian he has put together some posters. You can't get them all at his site, you have to go to several different places to collect them, a deranged Easter Egg hunt. It's worth it though as these posters are dead cool.
So where do you hunt?
* J.C. Hutchins’ site, home of 7th Son: OBSIDIAN and the 7th Son podcast novel trilogy
* Science-fiction news blog io9.com
* Sci-fi book interview/review site and podcast Dragon Page Cover to Cover

* Website of award-winning novelist Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff
* Website of award-winning novelist Mur Lafferty
* Website of award-nominated novelist Christiana Ellis
* Website of award-nominated novelist Tee Morris

Subscribe to the feeds on these sites and you'll get the posters automagically.
What is Obsidian? Well if you haven't been listening to my podcast, shame on you. I played the promo on my last ep. Click here to download just the Obsidian promo. If that doesn't get your attention you better check your pulse. Basically Obsidian is a group project wherein some of the biggest podcasting talent on the net are playing in Hutch's sandbox. Not just that, there's also a metric buttload of fan generated content. It's a world where paranoia, government conspiracies, and terrorists who can take over your mind are just the beginning. So get to downloading son!! If you need to catch up on the original trilogy, go here.
You will NOT be sorry.
So it's that time again. I don't have episode six ready yet (it's coming I swear) so until then, listen to these great shows.
Finally we have Episode 6. What will Sanders do?
Sorry for the delay folks. Hope you enjoy it.
Stick around for a promo for The Takeover!
Okay I've mentioned Obsidian and how cool of an idea it is. Well Episodes 1-3 have come out.
Episodes one and two are a two-parter by Tee Morris of the fantasy 'cast Morevi: Remastered. It's a straight up, high tension piece. He defintely brings the full on nail biting as his character tries to make his way home through the nationwide blackout. Does he make it? Is his family safe? In Hutchins world nothing is a given. Go give parts one and two a listen.
Episode three is ... a bit different. It is brought to us by TD-0013. Who's that you ask? Well he's an Storm Trooper. His 'cast A Different Point of View is the Star Wars universe brought to us through the eyes of an Imperial insider. Funny stuff to be sure. So I can't really describe it without giving some things away. I'll just say that it's a lot like Reese's Cups and leave it at that. Go listen to it here. Heck you should probably just go subscribe. You won't be sorry.
Also in closing, I thought I'd include this:
TD-0013 has performed the MS Walk for the past seven years in full Stormtrooper Replica armor from the Star Wars films. His team, the 501st Dune Sea Garrison makes the long trek each year in full Imperial regailia to try to bring more attention to the event, in the hopes that more money can be raised to fight this horrible disease. Please help support a Trooper from our team as we make the trek in FULL ARMOR to raise money to fight Multiple Sclerosis.
Sooo cool.
Episode 7 has Matt and Jose making their plans and Sanders hot on the trail of Robin. The tension continues to mount.
Story so far by Dave of The Jaded Visalian podcast.
No promo this time but stay tuned for a plea for help from Chris, from the Adult Space Child Free Podcast. She's looking for a treatment program for chronic fatigue. ht to JT for the audio file.
