“Rocking out” in a suit and tie.
Using scary ventriloquist dummies (any of them really).
Ranting about “the culture” and how sinful it is.
Using “cute” church signs.
“Reclaiming” ANYTHING.

This note is not telling you to stop doing any of these things (though if you did it wouldn’t hurt my feelings). It’s to tell you that I don’t think those things are doing anyone any good (not that God can’t use any of out attempts) and that there are better things you could be doing.

Feed the hungry.
Read the Bible.
Take someone out for a beverage of their choice and really talk (mostly listen).
Take your child fishing.
Start a blog.

Thanks.

I had a good weekend. Worked hard on the new shed, though it doesn’t seem much got done. Had a good time with my mother-in-law’s visit (Hi Mom!). Otherwise here are the highlights:

Got a new microphone/desktop stand for my podcast endeavors. I WILL be putting up the new episode tonight. You still have a chance to leave me a call on the voice mail line 206-888-4760 and get in on the feedback action (podcasters feel free to pimp your stiff on the voicemail, it will get played). Or email me an MP3 or leave me an iTunes review or a comment or an email!!

Used said mike to try out a Skype session with Indiana Jim. He’s an awesome podcasting friend.

Also used said mike to try a session on Stickam with Rhodester, Coffee Sister, Bob/Not Bob, and some other cool froods/froodettes. Friends good, Stickam buggy.

Read this monster: An Unexpected Party Chat (with del Toro and PJ) transcript now available!. If you’re looking forward to The Hobbit movie, read it. They don’t give away much, but it’s a good read.

Tried Starbucks’ Chai and Espresso Chocolates. They were good.

How about you?

Okay so first things first. Some of you may remember us getting Brownie the dog who fell in da pit. Well he and Tempe (our Pyrenes mix) love to play tag. The size ratio is 10:1.

Second of all if you’ll look over on my flickr sidebar you’ll see that I did indeed get my beer in the bottles. Once I’m sure they’re reasonably stable and am able to taste one I may be sending some out to the universe. Rhodester, Pat, and Ben I’m looking at you guys. Send me your addresses if you want one. Quantities are limited. Operators are standing by.

Thirdly.you should try Festina Peche by Dogfish Head. It’s about as tart as any beer has a right to be. This is not a fru-fru fruity beer. It’s incredibly refreshing. It won’t be my go to summer beer since it ain’t cheap, but it’s well worth checking out. What is my go to summer beer? Well in years past it’s pretty much been Sam Adam’s Summer Ale, but I tried Shock Top by A-B (I know I know) and it is indeed worthy and inexpensive.

I think Hillary crying sexism is pretty funny, but is she right when she intimates that being sexist in this country is easier than being a racist? I think so.
Olympians won’t be able to carry any religious items into the Olympic village in China. I’m not surprised, I’m not even angry. I’m something I’m just not sure what.
The writers strike hurts good shows and helps crap (reality) shows. I’m not a big fan of unions and strikes and in this case I think that if writers are so worried about their monetary future I think that they should be creating it instead of clinging to DVD sales. Still they are in some sense fighting the power and so rock on with your bad selves.
The JLA movie will rawk hard as will Iron Man. Don’t pinch me.
Why do people inist on building houses where they know they will burn down/blow away?

MCF posted this and I love me some lists, so here you go.

1) What was the highlight of your week?
We’ll make it this week past. I’d have to say watching my kids climb rocks, discovering new ones to climb and announcing it with a hearty “Look, more rocks!” while we were at Pilot Mountain.
2) Whose car were you in last?
Mine.
3) When was the last time you kissed someone?
This morning, kissing each of my children in turn and finishing with the wife.
4) What color shirt are you wearing?
Black with orange and red flowers and paisley.

5) How long is your hair?
I’d say about 3/4s of an inch.
6) Last movie you saw?
Hot Fuzz!
7) Last thing you ate?
A chocolate “Cutie Pie”.
What was last thing you drank?
Coffee.
9) Are you happy right now?
Sure.
10) What did you say last?
“Bye.”
11) Where is your phone?
Cell? On my M&M truck. Landline? Four feet away.
12) What was the last museum you went to?
Ooooh. Don’t remember. I’m gonna say the local kid’s museum and it’s been at least a year.
13) Who came over last?
To my house I guess that would be our landlord’s electrician to install a security light. Until then we were insecure.
14) Who/what do you hate/dislike currently?
Hate’s a mighty strong word. I’m gonna say Brussels Sprouts.
15) What are you listening to?
People in the hall. Sometimes I forget to queue up the next thing on my iPod after I sync it. There, NPR Shuffle.
16) If you could have one thing right now what would it be?
I could go all “Things don’t make you happy.” but I’d like a decent newer commuter vehicle with AC.
17) What are your favorite stores?
Those brick and mortar things? I’ll go with the local used bookstore, Ed McKay’s, and the local coffee shop, Krankies.
18) What makes you the happiest right now?
My kids, my wife, and learning to juggle three clubs.
19) What were you doing at midnight last night?
Trying to get to sleep.
20) Are you left-handed?
My left hand is stupid. It causes most of my typos.
21) What’s for dinner tonight?
I rarely know the answer to that question, but my wife’s cooking so it must be good.
22) When Is Your Birthday?
July 14th.
23) Who was the last person to send you a text message?
Ben.
24) When is the last time you were in a swimming pool?
Last summer. I haven’t been to the pool this summer. That’s amazing.
25) Where was the last place you went shopping?
The grocery store, Harris Teeter specifically.
26) How do you feel about your hair right now?
It’s there, so good.
27) Do you have any expensive jewelry?
My wedding band wasn’t cheap so I guess yeah. Expensive is subjective though.
28) AIM or MSN?
Yahoo?
29) What was the first thing you thought when you woke up this morning?
Coffee. While that may not be accurate it’s the closest thing to coherent thought I usually ever have.
30) Do you drink beer?
Oh yes.
31) Who do you miss?
I’ll echo MCF and say my college buds. I see some of them but only rarely. I miss them all though, even the pains in the neck.
32) MySpace or Facebook?
Feh. Kids and their fancy, shmancy social networks. In my day we had to stumble over people with similar interests. Then we’d have to apologize.
33) What was your favorite subject in school?
Study hall.
34) Do you have any talents?
I say writing. To do anything this badly for this long must take talent. Or possibly a masochistic streak.
35) Do you have any children?
Yup.
36) Did you take a nap today?
Nope.
37) Ever met someone famous?
Andy Griffith. He’s from where I went to High School and visited my music appreciation class.
38) Do you want to be famous one day?
Infamous.
39) Could you handle being in the military?
Now, maybe. Not so much when I was a kid. I hated authority.
40) Ever been to Las Vegas?
Nope and don’t want to.
41) When is the last time you updated your blog?
2007-09-04 12:57:23
42) Have you been to New York City?
Yes and I’d like to go back. When I went it was with a high school group and it was very much a tour.
43) Ever been to Disneyland/world?
Yup and much like NY I’d like to experience it more freestyle.
44) Last thing you cooked?
I’ll go with customizing a pizza (adding veggies to a meat pizza from Wally World’s deli. I love to cook from scratch, but it doesn’t happen very often.
45) Stupidest thing you ever did with your cell phone?
I don’t recall ever doing anything stupid with it.
46) Last time you were sick?
Stomach virus towards the end of the last school year.
47) Do you think anyone will repost this?
One never knows.

I saw the newest Bourne movie and it was good. It would have been reeeeally nice if i had rented number two first. It’s not a must, but it’s a good idea.
I caught up on Jekyll on BBCA. I’m not sure if BBCA rawks so much because American TV largely sucks or if it just does because it does. Either way, we win!
We went on a trek to Pilot Mountain. I will post pics tonight.
I rented Hot Fuzz. If you are like me and tend not to make it to some of the awesome movies while they’re still in the theater, you should make this a priority rental. It has a fair amount of British swearing, a surprising amount of grue, references Point Break and Bad Boys 2 a number of times, and all of that works in a remarkably hilarious way.
I did manage a short Tech Stew cast, solo this go ’round due to someone else having a social life (and no he didn’t call first).
I also managed to make it on The Political Ride though not the Religious one. Next week I’m planning to make it to all three.

Lest you think I’ve been lounging around, here’s what’s been going down.

I reviewed an early screening of The List for Hollywood Jesus. It’s in limited release right now and if you’re in western NC you should check it out.
Technical Stew has been hopping. Pat and I have had our fourth podcast which you can get to over there.
There was no Religious Ride this weekend past. Aaron was bizzay and I took my oldest to see Surf’s Up. It was decent, basically North Shore with penguins. Later that night I went to see Knocked Up (oddly enough both movies end with Up and were screened in the same theater). It was nothing like North Shore. I haven’t laughed that hard since Forty Year Old Virgin. If you saw that and liked it then you’ve actually probably already seen this. If not, go see it. As I told someone today, it’s amazing that a movie so positively filthy has such a solid, real, and funny look at marriage, parenting, relationships, and pink eye.
There will be no Political Ride tonight. Okay now, stop crying. Nobody likes a whiner. Aaron has family in and I could use the night off. Speaking of off time, I’ll be going off the grid Fri-Wed, visiting my parents on the coast. I may be having a guest blogger or two pop in. That’s my hope. It would tickle me to death. I’m taking a copy of my novel for editing and perhaps a book. Oh and the kids and my wife will be coming along too.
So that’s it for now.
What, you’re still here?

There is some action at my tumblelog.
I am going to be participating in the Rocky Mountain Ride shows so that should be interesting. I’m sure we’ll talk about the Republican “debate” a bit and who knows what all. The religious show will continue to find its way. We’ll be talking about simple churches aka house churches at some point in the near future, hopefully with a special guest. Maybe a bit about the religious right with the passing of Mr. Falwell.
So go outside, enjoy the beautiful weather, and please call in to one of our lovely podcasts!!!

The interenet tickles me sometimes. Okay so Marbits is also the new category name for when I post stuff like this, little snippets of info that add up to the equivalent of hard marshmallow bits of goodness. If they made a cereal that was just marbits I’d eat it.
Defintely seeing Spider-Man this weekend. I’ll post some thoughts. Darrel doesn’t hold much hope, but MCF is pretty stoked as am I.
If you really want to tax your brain then try reading something written by a 16th-century Puritan.
If you want to get fired discuss guns at work such that others can hear you. This sucks btw.
I suck as a softball pitcher.
I also suck at getting my debate stuff up. Apologies Sid. I’ll rectify it this weekend.
I’m getting stomped at online chess, but it’s fun.
Well that’s all for the nonce. Have a great weekend!
