Before and After

Before:
chicken
After:
chicken soup 2
Yep, Leigh took our chickens to the farm today. It was a one way trip for them. Today she made this lovely soup. Yes taking the first bite was a little weird, but you know what? It was miiighty tasty.
I think most people in this country would benefit from raising their own food, whether it be animal or vegetable. While it would be nothing like what farmers used to go through or what most farmers still go through today, it is fun and educational.
She came back with eight new birds and so our little egg production facility will be back up and running in about two weeks.

I think I'd go vegetarian if I ever had to kill animals myself, and by vegetarian I mean I'd just eat cookies and potato chips. So thank you, farmers of America, for doing what I couldn't do and don't like to think about...

Leigh (my wife) slaughtered one of the four. A farmer friend slaughtered two and a neighbor of his slaughtered the fourth. It was sort of a chicken butchering workshop. In the future she'll know how to do it and can teach me. She says it wasn't really hard or traumatic. So yeah. Now slaughtering a larger animal? Again I'd get a pro involved at least the first few times.
  • Awwww, poor chickies! But still, I admire you for raising them yourself. If you're gonna eat meat, you should know where it's coming from. But, would you still raise and eat them if you had to slaughter them yourself? Just wondering.
