Starship Catan

Geekdad from Wired.com played the latest iteration of the Catan series of games and pronounced it good. I love the original and have it. It was a big hit at the men’s retreat this year. This one will appeal to you sci-fi geeks and personally I’ll be adding it to my Christmas list.

An advantage for me is that this is a two player game and while you can play two player Settlers of Catan, it’s not as much fun. Here’s another good review.

If you’re looking for a good, challenging board game you can’t go wrong here.

To be fair I was mostly going off what I remembered hearing you say about two player Catan. I haven't tried the two player rules yet.

I haven't played any of the expansion modules yet, but I'm eager to.

You name the time and place bud and I'll be there. Solo trips to Charlotte haven't been happening for me. I've gone twice in the past three months and both of those times have been carpooling with someone from work so no side trips for me.

  • It looks interesting. I'd love to try it, but I don't think I'd buy it.

Since you brought up Klaus Teuber's brilliant creation, I have a few questions for you.

"An advantage for me is that this is a two player game and while you can play two player Settlers of Catan, it's not as much fun."

First question: Did you play by one of the two official two-player rules, or did you simply play the regular rules with 2 people? It makes a huge difference. I'm a huge fan of the 2nd set of 2 player rules.

Second question: Have you played the Cities and Knights expansion yet? It tripled the fun for me by adding a couple extra layers of complexity.

Third question: When are we going to play each other so that I can whip you? I'm willing to drive to meet you if it means Catan time!
