The robins that were nesting on our porch are no more. Leigh found the last of the babies in the grass, still barely alive. She fixed it a box with some warm water in ziplocks. She crushed up earthworms to feed it (yeah she’s awesome). But by the time I got home yesterday the little thing gave up the ghost. We buried it in the front yard, my oldest daughter and I. She was crying and my chest felt like it was about to implode. If you’re ever going to be a parent, be warned sometimes it can be a bit … difficult. You will never have all or even most of the answers.
The whole thing reminded me of this series of Calvin and Hobbes strips.
