Stardust

No, not Ziggy. I’ve been reading Neil Gaiman’s blog (not the best celebrity blog I read, but good nonetheless) and he’s been talking a little about Stardust, a movie based on his book.
I quite enjoyed American Gods and the Sandman comics, so I guess I’m looking forward to this movie. De Niro as a pirate could be awesome. Here’s the synopsis:

In the tranquil fields and meadows of long-ago England, there is a small hamlet that has stood on a jut of granite for 600 years. Just to the east stands a high stone wall, for which the village is named. Here, in the hamlet of Wall, young Tristran Thorn has lost his heart to the hauntingly beautiful Victoria Forester. And here, one crisp October eve, Tristran makes his love a promise — an impetuous vow that will send him through the only breach in the wall, across the pasture… and into the most exhilarating adventure of his life.

Anyone know any more about the book?

    Is Wil Wheaton a “celebrity” outside of Star Trek (or Stand By Me) conventions?
    Stardust looks amazing. Can’t wait.

    As much as Neil is amongst the populous at large. I’m guessing that if you mentioned both of their names at Wal Mart you’d get more hits on WW than NG. But strictly speaking probably not. His blog’s still a good geeky read though. And if you say it’s looks amazing, that carries a little weight for me.

    I only have a passing interest in the Written Works Of Neil Gaiman…but it’s directed by Mathew “Layer Cake” Vaughn. That’s an Englishman with, to date, chops. This is flick he wriggled free of X-Men 3 to do…so I’m very curious.

    So one great film (I’m assuming it was great) = “chops”? Also wriggling free of X3 would have been a smart move for any director. I mean sure it’s a successful franchise, but that was a messy movie.

    Really, he’s only directed one film, and Layer Cake wasn’t all that great, in my opinion. But considering his production credentials and his considerable impact on Guy Ritchie’s films (according to Ritchie’s commentaries), not to mention the pool/guild he grabs his usual actors from, I’m going to start looking forward to this.
    Do either of you know if he’s producing this under SKA Films or Screen Gems?

    After digging through the cast list, it looks like a lot of the Vaughn usuals are in there as supporting cast, including standouts Jason Flemyng and Adam Fogerty (Gorgeous George). I want to look for an uncredited Alan Ford in there, but I don’t think I’ll hold my breath.
