Pandora - digg this

I have long been a fan of Pandora - the free, legit internet radio service. Well it looks like they're having difficulties again thanks to SoundExchange.

According to the Washington Post:

Pandora is one of the nation's most popular Web radio services, with about 1 million listeners daily. Its Music Genome Project allows customers to create stations tailored to their own tastes. It is one of the 10 most popular applications for Apple's iPhone and attracts 40,000 new customers a day.

Yet the burgeoning company may be on the verge of collapse, according to its founder, and so may be others like it.

"We're approaching a pull-the-plug kind of decision," said Tim Westergren, who founded Pandora. "This is like a last stand for webcasting."

It's too bad it's falling on deaf ears. Most politicians aren't very technology friendly!! So the odds of stopping this from happening, isn't very likely :(

When will the music industry wake up and realize what they are doing is causing more harm to companies like Pandora.

Then they blame everyone for their mounting losses and lack of sales!

I tried leaving a trackback to this post, but couldn't. I guess I'll do it the old fashion way.

Continued actions like these will only make organizations like SoundExchange obsolete. Internet radio sites will slowly replace SoundExchange artists with independents that don’t require, or require less fees. They’ll do this to cut costs and stay alive...
