Life and Death - digg this
The robins that were nesting on our porch are no more. Leigh found the last of the babies in the grass, still barely alive. She fixed it a box with some warm water in ziplocks. She crushed up earthworms to feed it (yeah she's awesome). But by the time I got home yesterday the little thing gave up the ghost. We buried it in the front yard, my oldest daughter and I. She was crying and my chest felt like it was about to implode. If you're ever going to be a parent, be warned sometimes it can be a bit ... difficult. You will never have all or even most of the answers.
The whole thing reminded me of this series of Calvin and Hobbes strips.

I'm here via MCF and the great battle between unseen and b13.
I clicked over and saw this and wanted to share my story with you.
I had a border collie named Covington. I had her for a little over a year, and she was my baby!! I trained her since she was a puppy, she slept in my bed, and greeted me at the door. One day when I was at work, my brother in law left her in the back yard with the other two dogs. They all got out - but my baby got hit by a car. I'm 26 years old and cried like I'd lost a flesh and blood child. Even to this day when I pass by that spot, or see a picture of her I mourn for my friend.
I completely get that Calvin and Hobbs - she's not gone inside of me. Thanks for posting it!
I know that was hard. Thanks for sharing!
