Pilot Mountain - digg this
Leigh and I journeyed to nearby Pilot Mountain to partake of the local scenery and to get away from our three lovely children. It was three days well spent.
If you enjoyed this entry subscribe to this blog by email or feed readerThursday night we got there about the time it was full on dark, so there wasn't a lot in the way of scenery. Where might there be? Why Pilot Knob Inn Bed and Breakfast of course. My wife had planned the whole thing so I knew very little. I did know that the individual cabins were converted tobacco barns that managed to be cozy and cute. No mean feat pulling that off I'm sure.
We decided to head on in to Mount Pilot (the town near Pilot Mountain) and see what sort of food we could drum up. We went to Aunt Bea's BBQ. It was good, the 'cue very smoky and tender.
The next morning we got to see what the outside of our digs looked like.
Here's another cabin near ours:
The day was rainy and the breakfast nothing to write home about (blog about sure, but I'm easy). Still we were determined to make a go of it. After some strenuous antiquing we broke for lunch at Livin' Lattes, a coffee shop that we found out also serves as a music venue/church.
I'm glad to report that the food and coffee were most excellent. If you ever make it out that way I recommend the southwest chicken philly. The proprietors were incredibly friendly and insanely busy. That could be because they had a thriving business or seven kids or both. Still, they weren't too busy to talk about their business, their life, and the Gospel. We'll definitely be making a trip back asap.
We spent the rest of that day in Mount Airy (the town that inspired Mayberry) and headed back to the cabin for more R&R and a light meal.
The next day was off to a promising start weather wise.
The mountain still looked a bit foreboding though.
So rather than hike through what would be still damp undergrowth we decided to head into town and see what we could see. There wasn't much so we went to Horne Creek Farm to ask some questions about butter churning (edgy life we lead). Satisfied and after learning abut Love Valley, NC we headed on home. It was a much needed vacation and we added a few places to our must see list.
