TITMT - Name Game - digg this

This week's question from Janet is a simple one with the possibility of being a long, detailed answer:

"What are your favorite songs with a name in the title?"

Well no long detailed answer, but as MCF usually does I do provide YouTube videos of each.

If you enjoyed this entry subscribe to this blog by email or feed reader

Roxanne (Police) - I have a feeling that this one will be the first one to pop into many heads. It's defintely a favorite of mine, but most of the resonance for me comes from Eddie Murphy's rendition of it at the beginning of 48 Hours.

Levon (John/Hicks) - I really had no idea that there was a drummer by this name. Anyway, this song jumps to mind particularly because of Taylor Hicks and his phenomenal performance in the only season of Idol that I watched.

The Ballad of Billy the Kid (Joel) - I love the self referential quality in this song.

A Boy Named Sue (Cash) - I don't think any list of songs containing a proper name (and there are soooo many of those aren't there?) would be complete without this song. One should be careful when naming one's children.

That's what springs to my mind. How about you?

Total Number of Comments: 7

Myron by The Ocean Blue is my absolute favorite song with a name in the title.

Columbus by The Church is a great song.

Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordan Lightfoot, or is that one too easy?

Anna Miranda by The Church is a good one, but probably not may favorite.

I'm sure there are others. I'll comment again if I think of any.

Okay so tonight I'll have to see if those songs (other than The Wreck) have youtube entries as I don't think I've heard them.

Probably not. I tend to gravitate to obscure bands. I thought of a lot more over lunch...

Fripp and Show Me Marry by Catherine Wheel

Michelle and Louise by (Clan of) Xymox

Marian by The Sisters of Mercy

So Long, Marianne by Lenard Cohen as sung by James

Louise by (Clan of) Xymox

Jupiter and Teardrop by Grant Lee Buffalo (I hope nick names count)

The Ballad of Peter Pumpkin Head by XTC

There are a ton of great Beatles songs with names in the title:

Penny Lane
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
Hey Jude
The Ballad of John and Yoko

And finally, here's on that may take some figuring out...

Constant in Opal by the Church. Need any hints on this one?

I never would have thought of Levon, but that's a great pick! (WHY WHY do you show that Taylor Hicks dude, though?!)

Well Nat I thought it might be a bit sacreligious, but he does rawk.

Brandi You're a fine Girl

I played along too here. I don't watch Idol, so I had Levon by Elton John and a couple others that you have. It didn't make my top picks list though.
