Now THAT'S a power glove... - digg this

Robert Downey Jr. Wields His First Gauntlet - The more I see of this Iron Man flick the more I'm digging on it. This shot of RD Jr. as Tony testing the repulsor in his glove is perfect. Me, I like the FF movies (mostly). The Batman and Spider Man flicks were aces. I can forgive the Ghost Riders and Punishers. I can almost forgive the fey looking Superman (thought to be honest I haven't seen SR). As long as they're batting around .400 it's all good.

I don't understand people's hate for The Punisher. It was great in my opinion, and GR was very satisfying.
You need to see Superman Returns. I'm not kidding here.
Well as I said I haven't seen them, but I was speaking mainly of how bad they flopped compared to how hard they should have rawked.
The Fifth Element failed miserably at the box, but it remains in my top 20. I honestly think the general public are pitiful sheep when it comes to movies and (obviously) aren't to be trusted to feeding themselves, much less cherry-picking _my_ own opinions for me.
Sheep they may well be, but much like a broken clock they can be right from time to time. Movies like The Punisher and Ghost Rider have no business not being successful. They should have had major mainstream appeal. Not so much with Fifth Element which was a quirky sci-fi film (to say the least). I certainly don't let the mainstream or the movie geeks influence my opinion either. That wasn't my point. My point was that I think that the studios screwed the pooch with Punisher, GR, and SR.
Superman Returns was a complete and utter creative failure. The movie was terrible in its own merits, and completely failed in any attempt to be true to the character as created by Siegel & Schuster, and portrayed by many writers, artists and actors over its lifetime.
The only thing that keeps it from being the worst superhero/comic book adaptation of all time is The Punisher, which was even worse in its portrayal of the character, and also a complete and utter creative failure.
But man, they are a near-photo finish...
As for Iron Man, I have some trepidation about the upcoming movie.
In my head, I just don't see Robert Downey Jr. in the role. Granted, his real-life struggles will give him some insight into Tony Starks inner demons, but Downey strikes me as too youngish looking and I fear his portrayal of the millionaire side of Stark will seem comic.
But Iron Man is one of my favorite comic book characters, and I'm so jazzed to see the movie that I'm willing to put aside my fears and give Downey the benefit of the doubt.
Don't hold back Jerry. Tell us how you really feel. ;-)
I feel what you're saying about RD, but hang in there. I think he'll do well.
Wait...you're concerned that the portrayal of a comic book character will seem "comic"...?
Why not give some valid reasons for your opinions on SR and Punisher instead of wild-eyed fanboy posturing and exaggerated bluster?
Easy there big boy. Let's keep the snark to a minimum.
The comic in comic books doesn't mean that everything should play funny. I think he means that he wants to see Stark played as serious.
As for the two movies in question the burden of proof that they're good may lie with you since the overwhelming critical and "fan-boy" opinion seem to be against you.
