Movie Time - Casino Royale - digg this
Well I checked this out last night and I have to say that as good as it was I was a little disappointed. I liked the fact that it was a prequel/origin story. That worked well for me. Seeing a neophyte "00" learn the ropes was interesting. Craig was neither a smooth Bond, nor a pretty one, but that was cool. I loved all of the characters/actors. The bond girls were good on several levels. So what was wrong? It was too long and had too many endings. They seemed to keep stretching it out. And the final ending was too rushed.
Having said that I need to say how great Craig was. I defintely want to see him in at least one more Bond film to see if he can really nail down suave, without being plain sarcastic.
That's it for now. Tonight I'm watching Children of Men and my hopes are indeed high. Thoughts on that as they happen.

I'll be watching CR this weekend. :)
Best Bond movie by far.
I think Bond being not quite as refined as we expect was kinda the point. Think of this film as "Bond Begins".
There's a thing Connery did that no other subsequent actor could get; Bond as gentleman AND cold-blooded killer. And that element is summaried visually in the final shot of Casino Royale. Beautiful three-piece suit accessoried with sniper rifle.
I also love the scene where Le Chiffre is about to walk out of the casino and Bond is like "Fuck It" and palms a table knife. And Felix reins him in.
Dunno if it's the best Bond film. Still kinda partial to Goldfinger. Film opens with Bond coming out of the water with a duck strapped to his head. Can't top that kind of subterfuge.
Dunno about it being the best so far, but it was good. Only thing that didn't work for me was the multiple endings and even that wasn't horrible.
I have found that women seem to like this pouty Bond more than guys. Give me Pierce or Sean. That said I enjoyed the flick. So fickle am I :)
He's got the stone cold killer thing down, but yeah, not as suave as he could be. Though again this is like "Bond Begins" as Ben pointed out.
