Starbucks Travel French Press - digg this
So one of the sales reps I support was kind enough to send me a Starbucks card and I thought rather than blow it all on Frappuccinos strong black manly coffee, I'd actually get something that I could use long term. I really wanted a desktop coffee maker for work. I saw this little gem:

and plunked down my gift card. It runs $7.95 and works pretty well. You grind the coffee coarsely and let it steep. There's a mini-plunger that pushes the screen down filtering out the coffee grounds. And a handy little flip top pour/drinking spout lets you decant. It's double wall insulated and I suppose if you had to drink from it, you could. In my experimenting it has let some of the grounds/tea leaves escape into my cup, but that's not bad. It's easy enough to clean. The only bad thing about it is that it's just not very big. It makes about five ounces, which while technically a cup of coffee by most measures, just doesn't fill my mug. Still, it's better than office coffee so it'll do nicely.

I love a good cup of black coffee. Been wanting to get a press for work so I'll have to see what they have available at the Starbucks in town. Thanks for the review.
At eight bucks it seems like a serious bargain. You might want to go with a bigger size though.
What does the filter/strainer look like? Is it plastic with a rubber gasket or steel mesh?
The strainer is steel mesh. The gasket itself looks like silicone.
of course, i love this blog item. french press is supposed to be the best way to make coffee.
i have been non-bloggy lately and had not seen this site. it's wonderful!
Thanks! It's nice to own your own URL. I need to grab my name as a domain one of these days.
Hello Scott,
I decided to follow you over from RF since I've always enjoyed our discussions and your point of view. I wanted to see what your website is all about. Unfortunately, try as I might, I could not find an 'about' page. Could you describe it to me? Is it a personal blog frequented by people who know you personally or does it also target others?
I'd better contribute something on topic as well. Back when I was a coffee drinker, nothing compared to a fresh-ground, French-pressed mug of coffee. The only way to improve on it was to add some Irish creme, as I often did before my college classes. The Starbucks travel French-press sounds like a great way to take that flavor on the road. For my desk at work, I'd splurge for a larger volume one though.
Hey Sid! Welcome. An about page/blurb is actually probably a good idea. Actually most of my readers are probably fellow bloggers/web friends. Most people I know "offline" probably don't read this, though there are a few that do. So in a nutshell this is a personal blog where I address spiritual stuff and also host and point to reviews and fiction that I write in addition to cool stuff that I run across in my journeys. I also hope to get a podcast or two cranked up here and have aspirations of doing some sort of group blog. Does that help?
Also, regarding the french press, now that I have one I want a bigger one. At home I use a Chemex brewer which cranks out my morning caffiene fix.
Thanks Scott, that does help. I think I'll drop by from time to time and add my opinions, if it's alright with you. I don't know how well my point of view will be received here, but I shouldn't just stay in my comfort zone on RF. Criticism of my beliefs is important to me.
Please do. Maybe it'll spice things up! And your opinions/comments will always be welcome whether I agree with them our not.
If you feel comfortable shoot me an email sometime. I have some questions I want to ask you. scott @ thisdomain . com
